Amplification Systems

Beginning this type of work in 1980 while at the NIH, Dr. Cori Gorman has developed methods, which allowed for high efficiency gene transfer into a wide variety of cell types including human cells. We can help you with your systems as well.

  • These techniques afforded gene transfer at a frequency 1000 higher than the previous reports.
  • This work is described in classic publications gaining over 800 citations.

Gene Expressed Increase in Productivity Status of Project
Recombinant Human Factor VIII:C Protein
(Genentech)
The process developed resulted in a 100 fold increase in production of full length FVIII:C and allowed for expression of new variants at a level 1000 fold above the original process. FVIII:C was licensed to Bayer Biotechnology and is currently marketed as a clotting factor widely used in the treatment of hemophilia.
Nerve Growth Factor
(Genentech)
Established the first viable mammalian production cell line for NGF Because of poor results in Phase III in 1999, clinical further clinical devleopment was abandoned.
Anti-HER2 Humanized Monoclonal Antibody
(Genentech)
Developed a system at allow for rapid production of humanized antibodies. This process cut the time it took to develop a production cell line from 9 months to 3 months. Genentech has commercialized the anti-HER2 antibody as a treatment for metastatic breast cancer.
Anti-IgE Humanized Monoclonal Antibody (Genentech) Developed a system to allow for rapid production of variants of humanized antibodies to for in vivo efficacy testing. The small-scale transient process developed allowed production of sufficient protein (in the milligram range) in a week rather than 3 months. Genentech is investigating whether
the anti-IgE humanized monoclonal
antibody can interfere early in the complex, multistep process that lead to the symptoms of allergy, in patients
who have asthma. Xolain was awaiting
FDA approval (8/01).
