Using Federal
Grant Programs to Fund Your Science
Session Summary:
Federal grants
offer non-diluting funds to fund research focused on product
development. With the private funding markets so difficult, this
source of funding should be explored by small companies. The SBIR/STTR
programs offer over $600 million in funding for life sciences.
The session will discuss the compelling reasons to participate,
keys to successful applications and the realities of timing.
Options beyond NIH will also be described. Case studies will show
how companies used this mechanism to build a strong foundation of
the science required to build a business. Presenters have
written, reviewed and been Principal Investigator on many-funded
proposal.
